Radiation oncologists, radiation oncology nurses, medical physicists, radiation therapists, dosimetrists and biologists comprise ASTRO’s more than 10,000 members , making it the largest radiation oncology organization of its kind. These medical professionals, found at hospitals and cancer treatment centers around the globe, make up the radiation therapy treatment teams that are critical in the fight against cancer. These teams, which often include a nutritionist and a social worker, treat more than 1 million cancer patients each year.
Among our members are healthcare professionals from distinguished community practice centers as well as major academic research facilities. ASTRO provides these hard-working men and women with the continuing medical education, health policy analysis, patient information resources and advocacy that they need to succeed in today’s ever-changing healthcare delivery system.

- Key DifferentiatorThe College is managed by a volunteer Board of Chancellors elected by the membership and guided by the By-laws. The Board consists of 17 elected Chancellors made up of the Chair, the President (Chair Elect), the Vice-President (President Elect), the Secretary-Treasurer, the Immediate Past Chair, the four (4) Chairs of the Professional Committees (Governmental Affairs Committee, Standards Committee, Economics Committee, and Membership Committee), seven (7) general members, one (1) appointed liaison representative to ASTRO, one (1) appointed liaison representative to ARRO, one (1) appointed liaison to AFROC at the option of the Executive Committee, and two (2) non-voting emeritus members. The Board meets twice each year, at the Annual Meeting in February and at a mid-year meeting in October. The Executive Committee meets monthly by telephone conference call. Elections are held annually prior to the College's Annual Meeting. Each chancellor serves a 3-year term but not more than two consecutive terms. The chief executive officer of the College is the President of the College who automatically ascends to the position of Chairman. Programming is by committees whose members are appointed by the Board of Chancellors. The Board of Chancellors adheres to guidelines of tenure for committee personnel to ensure periodic rotation. The Board of Chancellors, through a contract with an association management company (PAI Management Corporation www.paimgmt.com), is supported by an Executive Director who, with other assigned staff members, is responsible for all functions related to management direction, administrative services, membership administration, publications, conference management, financial management, continuing medical education, and committee support. The strength of the College lies in the careful appointment of committees for the varied assignments and in the broad participation of members in the educational activities.
