Hey, I’m Julia Arenas. I’m 30 years old and based in the Philippines. I’m a U.P. Fine Arts graduate and after 6 years of working on digital effects for TV commercials I’ve left that industry of animation and digital motion graphics and have just begun to pursue a new career, professional make-up artistry. I’ve done professional shoots with real models for their “folios”, makeup for TV Commercials, and shortly after that I recently finished studying foundational make-up principles under the MAKE UP FOR EVER Singapore Academy in June 2011. vday_2k14_10 I enjoy testing and writing about beauty related products, most especially make-up and skincare. To some extent my writing about beauty and doing makeup for actual shoots, TVCs, weddings or events go hand in hand adding unique balance to my life. I became cosmetic conscious most especially when I worked for Living Asia Channel a few years ago. I had to learn to put my own makeup on-the-go as a writer/host, there were no make-up artists around to touch you up. This blog began as a thank you post to an Australian lip balm company that were very warm, helpful, and friendly when something I purchased from them online got lost for awhile. They assisted me with my very first purchase of Lanolips lip ointment that had been sent to a wrong address because of a typo on my end. Around that time I also started watching some make-up tutorials by some currently famous make-up gurus and professionals on YouTube. Some of those artists in particular who inspire me are a UK Professional Makeup Veteran: Lisa Eldridge, US based Korean: Jen of frmheadtotoe, UK sisters Sam & Nicola Chapman of Pixiwoo, the ever popular and innovative MichellePhan a.k.a RiceBunny , and the beautiful and driven Swiss siren, Julia (lovely name LOL) of Misschievous Makeup. From that point on, I moved forward quite speedily, falling for some of the products they said were “bloody good” and being resourceful enough to find some of them online and have them shipped to me. When I wasn’t watching video tutorials to improve my own skill I poured over several prolific beauty blogs (there are thousands of them, but a specific handful are up to date and top quality) to update myself with new product launches, product quality reviews and swatches (swipes on the hand) and so forth. In time I purchased my own domain and moved to WordPress and began my own thread for my passion. I hope you have fun reading about my simple discoveries and cosmetic loot. All opinions published in this blog are personal and my own. At this point, I am simply a budding freelance make-up artist, DIY dear, and cosmetic product princess in my free time. Almost all products featured in this blog are purchased with my own money or sent to me by the PR of certain brands, otherwise they are gifts or in some cases prizes from contests I’ve won. I’m also very particular about discounts and bargain sale prices so almost all products here are obtained at discount or from a sale in order to make this hobby/past time affordable. Make-up techniques that I share here are some that have been shared with me personally, professionally, or some that I have researched on my own that I find work for me. I’d like to send a shout out to my Mama, who carved this passion first in my little heart over 2 decades ago. She would spread all her make-up in possession alongside the bathroom sink and label certain special Saturdays a Make-Up Holiday :) “Bless my bag” is a personal declaration that whatever I need and even want may come to me as a blessing.
