CNY Central is the umbrella brand for three TV stations (WSTM-NBC3, WSTQ-CW6 , WTVH-CBS5), a 24 hour news and weather station (CNY Central Digital) and a website (CNYcentral.com). CNY Central is the largest media company in Upstate New York producing 60 hours of local news per week. CNYcentral.com delivers millions of pageviews per month and is very active on multiple social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. CNY Central's anchors, reporters and meteorologists are all active social media users.

On February 15, 1950 Channel 3 signed on for the first time as WSYR-TV in downtown Syracuse. In 1980, the station’s call letters were changed from WSYR to the current WSTM. WSTM was the first television station in Syracuse to broadcast in color (1957), the first to use videotape machines (1958), the first to use all-electronic news gathering (1973), and the first to broadcast in full stereo sound (1986).
