    The Duluth Heritage Sports Center (DHSC) stands today as a symbol of what great things can happen when both the public & private sectors of a community come together to work toward a common goal. Before the first shovel full of earth was turned at the Duluth Heritage Sports Center construction site, a group of dedicated individuals came together with a common vision and a mission to convert a blighted sector of the Duluth western section of town into a vibrant center where the community’s youth could enjoy the benefits of physical activities in an atmosphere that also taught them the benefits of hard work, team spirit and a strong sense of fair play. They also wanted a prominent place where Duluth’s proud sports heritage could be displayed and preserved to inspire future generations. The project was conceived as a four phased mission: a.) Establish a design & construction budget; b.) Develop a viable operational business plan to ensure operational sustainability; c.) Search out pertinent memorabilia to put on display within the facility; d.)Raise the funds necessary to pay construction costs. To accomplish this, the DHSC’s first Board of Directors was formed by people who had a genuine interest in supporting the organization’s vision. They also had the time and energy together with useful expertise to get the project moving and keeping it aimed in the right direction. Without the dedication and determination of this charter group, the DHSC would have likely remained nothing more than a “wish” instead of being a reality.
