Red Tail Hawk: On Closer Inspection red_tail_hawk_head About GazeboNews.com is a news website covering Lake Forest, Lake Bluff and the surrounding communities on Chicago’s North Shore. It was started in the fall of 2008 with two primary missions: To provide high-quality local news that welcomes interaction with local readers To serve as a platform for local businesses to communicate their timely marketing messages to the local consumer. Adrienne in a photo taken by Cyn at the beach Adrienne Fawcett is founder and editor of GazeboNews. She started her career writing obituaries for a small newspaper in Indiana, moved to upstate New York to work as a copy editor for The Record, and was features editor for Advertising Age magazine in Chicago for many years. She also has as done a lot of freelance writing, volunteer work, and home renovating, including her present house, which won a “Distinguished Home” award from the Vliet Center of Lake Bluff History in 2008. She has one husband, three children in three schools, two dogs and two mosquito fish. After many years of working in print media, Adrienne saw the internet as an opportunity to create a news delivery service that operates like a town square, where readers can share information, express opinions, and learn about news soon after the news has happened. She named the news site Gazebo because four of the towns she has lived in have gazebos in their town squares. Contact Adrienne at adrienne@gazebonews.com Cyn Sansing Mycoskie Cyn Sansing Mycoskie joined GazeboNews as chief photographer in 2009. Her photos of local people, places and events bring a sophisticated edge to these pages (as well as this About page–these are her photos). Cyn moved to Lake Bluff from Texas in 2007 after marrying a high school friend from Austin she’d lost touch with for 33 years. Before that move to Austin when she was 16, she lived in Winnetka, so the North Shore terrain–and climate–are not unfamiliar. Cyn’s background includes three grown sons, three grown stepchildren, a journalism degree, work in the advertising/marketing field and a freelance photography business that she’s run since 1996. She moved to Lake Forest with her husband in 2008, and she’s thrilled to be back on the North Shore after broiling to death in Texas for 35 years! Experienced in shooting (individual and group) sports, events, weddings and outdoor portraits, Cyn is available for occasional freelance work, and the photos you see on GazeboNews are available for a very reasonable price. Contact Cyn at www.cynimage.com Mike Conklin at Kiddles; photo by Cyn Mike Conklin is a man who wears many hats … and a helmet. He spent 35 years as an editor, columnist and feature writer at the Chicago Tribune, after which he embarked on a career teaching journalism at DePaul University’s College of Communication. Along the way he married his wife, Diane, and with her raised two children in Lake Forest. He also co-founded the Chicago Urban Bicycling Society, went on lots of bike tours and hikes, became a trustee of the Lake Forest Historical Society … and yet still has time to serve as president of the GazeboNews advisory board and pen a column called The Bicycle Diaries.
