HealthSource RI, Rhode Island’s health benefits exchange, is a new way for Rhode Islanders and Rhode Island small employers to find and compare health insurance plans from reputable health insurance carriers, and to purchase the coverage that best fits their needs.
Through HealthSource RI, small employers can now offer their employees access to a wide range of high-quality health insurance options, all of which offer guaranteed coverage for essential health benefits like visits to the doctor, preventive care, hospitalizations, emergency care and prescriptions. And with HealthSource RI's Full Employee Choice option, small employers can offer their employees the ability to choose their own plan. Employers simply pick a reference plan at their designated contribution level and allow their employees to choose from any of HealthSource RI's 16 plans for small employers. Employees pay any difference in premium for the plan they select; the employer writes just one check and HealthSource RI takes care of the details.
Small employers who work with a broker can continue to do so. In addition, some small employers may qualify for a tax credit to help cover their health insurance costs.
