    About me I have been reading health and fitness blogs for years and I rarely ever commented and I never thought that I could manage to take enough pictures to have my own blog. In fact, I hardly ever took any pictures before we had our first baby! I'm really enjoying the blogging process and I think it will be so fun to be able to look back at my entries and remember how life was when my kids were young. Who am I? A 29 year old living in southern MD with my wonderful husband (read about how we met here) and adorable toddler and new baby (and a crazy dog). We moved here about 4 years ago for my husband's job. I used to despise living here since it's so rural compared to my upbringing, but I've learned to appreciate the positives, like owning a nicer house and less traffic! I still really enjoy laughing at aspects of this area like hearing cows in the morning and getting stuck behind Amish on the road. What is this blog about? I like to talk about running, but there is only so much running talk my husband can handle, so I thought a blog would be a good place to natter on about running training plans and such. Also, I take a ton of pictures of the kids (and the dog) so those will be all over the blog too. The blog will also document the growth of my kids and any thoughts I have on motherhood. What's my background? My academic background is an undergraduate degree in English (Development of Modern Literature) with a minor in Religious Studies. My master's degree is in Political Science with a concentration on International relations. I focused a lot of my graduate studies on political Islam and I also studied Arabic. Since moving to southern MD, I decided to become a high school teacher since that seemed like the best job option for me here. I also really like the idea of getting home early and having summers off with our kids. Last year I completed my course work necessary to become a certified English teacher at the secondary level. Once we decide that I will go back to work, I'll complete my internship (student teaching) and then be fully certified. What's my fitness background? When I was 18, I started to take Tae Kwon Do (TKD). I found that I loved martial arts! It was hard when the first school I went to closed and I had to switch to a new one and make new friends, but I eventually settled in and made black belt. By that time, I was bored. TKD felt so robotic to me and I hated having to wait so long to learn new things. I made the big switch to kung fu, which was fantastic. I can't really express in a short paragraph how awesome kung fu is, so just trust me. As I trained in martial arts, I also frequented the gym. I ran for cardio and did fitness classes for fun. When we moved to southern MD, I had to leave the kung fu school. Without kung fu, I started to run more. Now, that's my main fitness activity. Before the baby I did other things like Body Pump, but now it's pretty much just running. Running is something I can with the baby or with a group of friends and even though it started out as a causal hobby, it snowballed in running marathons and ultramarathons. I can now say my hobby has become an indispensable way of life!
