Help us to maintain and build the Jewish Virtual Library. AICE was established in 1993 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3), nonpartisan organization to strengthen the U.S.-Israel relationship by emphasizing the fundamentals of the alliance — the values our nations share. Tangibly, this means developing social and educational programs in the U.S. based on innovative, successful Israeli models that address similar domestic problems, and bringing novel U.S. programs to Israel. AICE has created this web site to further these objectives and provide information to the public related to U.S.-Israel relations. The Jewish Virtual Library is a cyber encyclopedia designed to offer students — and anyone else with access to the Internet — facts about virtually every aspect of Jewish history and culture. Since the Library takes a scholarly, independent approach, we do not want to have advertisements that will clutter up the pages, distract from the content or give a false impression of influencing the editorial policy of the editor. We have therefore chosen to adopt an approach modeled after American public television whereby companies, individuals and foundations may become sponsors of wings of the Library. Individual sponsors of the Jewish Virtual Library will be thanked and recognized (unless they prefer not to be) on our Acknowledgments page. Corporate sponsors may have their logo and/or name associated with a particular library wing, with a hypertext link to the sponsor's web site. Since AICE is tax-exempt, contributions are tax-deductible.

Description:

The Jewish Virtual Library (JVL) is your source for information about Jewish history, Israel, U.S.-Israel relations, the Holocaust, anti-Semitism, and Judaism. The JVL currently has more than 25,000 articles and 10,000 images and is accessed by users in more than 230 countries and territories worldwide.

The JVL is not just a historical archive - it is also the place to find talking points and factual analysis on the most important news stories. When an issue comes to the fore and you need data fast, the JVL is the first place you should look.

The JVL purposely avoids links with other sites so as to make this a one-stop shop for information. Our goal is to provide the basic information you need and we have purposely kept most of the entries brief to make them more digestible. Some will provide all the information you need, others should be viewed as a starting point. We stick to the facts and make as many primary sources and original documents available as possible.

I'd love to learn but...

The app is buggy, refusing to scroll downwards which may be fixed by trying to scroll upwards first but not always. Sometimes it freezes with no possible movement upwards or downwards. Please fix it.
AVFoundation
The AV Foundation framework provides an Objective-C interface for managing and playing audio-visual media in iOS and OS X applications.
CFNetwork
Access network services and handle changes in network configurations. Build on abstractions of network protocols to simplify tasks such as working with BSD sockets, administering HTTP and FTP servers, and managing Bonjour services.
Core Foundation Framework
Core Foundation is a framework that provides fundamental software services useful to application services, application environments, and to applications themselves. Core Foundation also provides abstractions for common data types, facilitates internationalization with Unicode string storage, and offers a suite of utilities such as plug-in support, XML property lists, URL resource access, and preferences.
Core Graphics
The Core Graphics framework is based on the Quartz advanced drawing engine. It provides low-level, lightweight 2D rendering with unmatched output fidelity. You use this framework to handle path-based drawing, transformations, color management, offscreen rendering, patterns, gradients and shadings, image data management, image creation, and image masking, as well as PDF document creation, display, and parsing.
Foundation Framework
The Foundation framework provides a base layer of functionality for apps and frameworks, including data storage and persistence, text processing, date and time calculations, sorting and filtering, and networking. The classes, protocols, and data types defined by Foundation are used throughout the macOS, iOS, watchOS, and tvOS SDKs.
Launch Services
macOS Launch Services is an API that enables a running app to open other apps or their document files, similar to the Finder or the Dock.Launch Services eliminates apps having to query the Finder to open an app, document, or URL for them. The macOS Finder itself uses Launch Services to perform such tasks. Because the Finder performs no additional processing beyond calling Launch Services, any client using Launch Services for these purposes behaves identically to the Finder.
MobileCoreServices
Use uniform type identifier (UTI) information to create and manipulate data that can be exchanged between your app and other apps and services using MobileCoreServices.
Security Framework
Secure the data your app manages. Protect information and control access to your app.
System Configuration F...
This collection of documents describes the programming interfaces of the System Configuration framework. The System Configuration framework provides functions that determine the reachability of target hosts in both a synchronous and an asynchronous manner. It also provides error detection facilities.
UIKit
The UIKit framework (UIKit.framework) provides the crucial infrastructure needed to construct and manage iOS apps. This framework provides the window and view architecture needed to manage an app’s user interface, the event handling infrastructure needed to respond to user input, and the app model needed to drive the main run loop and interact with the system.
