- Key DifferentiatorAndrew Catron; Blogger: Catron is a career firefighter in Northeast Tennessee, and has been in the fire service for 10 years. He is a native of Southwest Virginia and relocated to Kingsport, Tennessee in early 2008 to pursue his career as a firefighter. Currently assigned to Station 1 and on the Technical Rescue Team, he takes pride in every aspect of the profession. Many of his articles discuss his views about how members should be prideful in the job they have sworn to uphold, and how to make the workplace a comfortable environment for all. Catron is a proud member of the IAFF, and serves as an Executive Board Member for Local 2270. Andrew also has also traveled to New York City to assist with Hurricane Sandy Relief with Task Force 17 out of the Charlotte, NC area. He sits on the Advisory Board for the National Firefighters Endowment, an organization that provide grants and equipment for departments in need. In his spare time, he enjoys camping, fishing, and working out at his local CrossFit gym, CrossFit: Shifty Powers. He was recently selected as a RideBackwards Athlete, and participates in several physical agility events throughout the year including 9/11 Stair Climbs and 5K’s. The Model City Firefighter is derived from the city he works and lives in. The “Model City” earned it’s name in 1917 when the city was re-chartered. An architect by the name of John Nolen planned, outlined, and designed the city. The current population of the “Model City” is just over 50,000 residents.
