Established in 1991, MountainWeather began forecasting for the local helicopter skiing service in Jackson, High Mountain Heli-Skiing, providing a daily detailed aviation forecast for their operation during the winter months. In 1993, Jim began broadcasting his Jackson Hole weather forecast on the local radio station and also faxing the daily forecast to various businesses and individuals. In 1997, mountainweather.com was born, primarily to consolidate links to all the best weather data and maps in one single website for use by forecasters and other weather enthusiasts. The website has evolved over the years, and expanded to include an extensive collection of pages for Alaska Weather. The first edition of the Alaska Weather Page was a result of a request by the late Doug Coombs of Valdez Heli Ski Guides as a way to consolidate links to weather and forecast information for their daily operations. Today, the goal of mountainweather.com is to provide the best access to, and almost one-stop shopping for, weather information for the mountainous regions of the Western U.S., Alaska, and beyond.
