    Sage Broadcasting started KIDY as an independent television station on May 12, 1984. This was the fourth local broadcast station to go on the air in San Angelo, Texas. In 1988, KIDY became a local FOX under STAR Broadcasting. Later, STAR Broadcasting was dissolved and only Sage Broadcasting remained. On January 1, 2008, Bayou City Broadcasting began operating the station as LMA and on July 31, 2008, became the official owner of KIDY. In late January 2009, the KIDY analog transmitter suffered a catastrophic transmitter failure and in the last week of January, KIDY started Digital transmission. KIDY petitioned the FCC to cease analog transmission and continue digital transmission and was approved. In 2011, the KABB-FOX San Antonio news was added at 9 p.m. on KIDY and so the station would have a “news” presence. In late 2011, local 5-minute news updates were implemented to start the 9 p.m. newscast and the San Antonio news was joined in progress. In 2012, Bayou City Broadcasting upgraded all operations for KIDY to HD making KIDY the first station in the Concho Valley to be full HD. On January 1, 2013 the station was acquired by London Broadcasting Company. Plans immediately went into effect to improve the physical location of the station, as well as prepare for a full local news launch and staffing was upgraded to achieve revenue goals. KIDY purchased and renovated a bank building in downtown San Angelo and moved into the current location in December 2013. In late 2013, the race was on to hire a full news and production staff to plan and launch local news programming on January 27, 2014 at 9:30 p.m. in San Angelo. On July 8, the London Broadcasting stations were purchased by Gannett Company, Inc. In August, KIDY developed the concept and debuted a local high school football show: The West Texas Scoreboard. September 22 saw the launch of the 6 p.m. newscast in San Angelo; and on December 1, the 9:30 p.m. newscast on KIDY was moved to 10 p.m. to capture a larger audience share from our competitors. When Gannett split in late June 2015, KIDY became part of the new broadcasting company, TEGNA. Continued growth of our news offerings is always a priority. On October 5th of 2015, an all-new morning show debuted in the Concho Valley named Wake Up West Texas. This show airs 5:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. and features a high level of current local news from the West Texas region, as well as the latest in regional and national news with a heavy emphasis on social media trending news, events, and activities. Today, KIDY continues to perfect news operations and compete to become THE news source for Concho Valley. Under the leadership of TEGNA, additional growth has taken place in the newsroom and technology has received a boost with emphasis on web and social media activities. Sales operations now have the full arsenal of G/O Digital offerings to provide to local clients and continue to grow revenue through an assortment of annual projects. The station is actively involved in numerous community oriented projects throughout the year and believe in giving back to the communities that we serve. KIDY broadcasts the Downtown Christmas Parade live, as well as the ASU Homecoming Parade. The station is a partner with the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo, highlighted with a broadcast of the Premium Sale, just to name a few key events.
