    So what’s this about no bun? Dominic Geracia, author of No Bun Please “No bun please.” These three words have come up so many times when I’ve eaten out that it should probably be tattooed somewhere on my body. In fact, even when I overindulge in adult beverages, this phrase still resonates in my head. One night, I decided I was going to start my own blog dedicated to my way of eating. I had ordered a corned beef sandwich and followed with my usual, “No bun please.” I knew this would be the perfect title. Hello there and welcome to my glorious spot on the Internet. My name is Dominic and I love food. In fact, I love food so much that it made me fat. What is a Keto diet? One day, I was browsing reddit and came across a forum called keto (short for ketogenic/ketosis). I scanned hundreds of threads of people claiming to have lost weight eating a diet filled with things like sausages, cheeses, BACON, heavy cream, etc. Essentially, everything that I’ve been told is bad for me. I could have all of this and all I had to do was give up high carb sources like bread and pasta. I was intrigued. My curiosity? Piqued. I had to give this a go. After braving through a few days of lethargy, I weighed myself. I nearly fell off the scale — I was down six pounds. From that moment on, I knew this was something I could do. I went out with friends and didn’t feel like I was eating to lose weight. If I ordered a sandwich, I would say, “No bun please.” But I could eat a lot more than just a breadless sandwich. Chicken wings, full-fat dressings, buttered vegetables, the whole nine yards. As the weeks progressed and the weight started to drop, I noticed a whole mess of unexpected changes in my life. For the first time in literally years, I wasn’t getting tired throughout the day. I was sleeping through the night without waking up. All of my digestive problems were gone. I didn’t feel like I swallowed an anchor after I ate. My knee didn’t bother me. I felt fantastic. Yeah. All of this from eating (bunless) burgers, hot wings and bacon! I’m not going to lie, it’s no cake walk (haha). I really did miss bread and pasta my first few weeks. I am Italian, after all. But the cravings faded and I felt great. So that’s where I am today. I’m losing weight with a ketogenic diet and following a program called Carb Nite. It is essentially a ketogenic diet with one carb-up night per week. I find this optimal for fat loss and maintaining strength when lifting. Now, pass that bacon would ya?
