Dedicated to Family & Flight I get asked all the time why I started RCFlightline.com. Some people might think it was my love for aviation which goes all the way back to my childhood. It's true I do love anything that flies, but the real reason behind RCFlightline.com is my love of family. It’s my belief that today's families are broken. What do I mean when I say broken? Well, the list is long but here are a few of my immediate concerns. Divorce is trending upward, the marriage between a man and a woman is constantly being threatened, single parents are raising children, families are not doing activities together, and God is systematically being taking out of the equation almost entirely. I was lucky enough to grow up in a family with God fearing parents who love each other, compromised with each other, and didn't run away from each other at the first sign of trouble. Their ability to work with each other over the years has given my sister and I the awesome opportunity of seeing them celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this last year. Doesn’t it make you wonder how they lasted 50 years so far? It did me. Over the past few months I asked my parents what the difference are over the last 50 years compared to now and this is what I learned: My father was the breadwinner of the family and my mother the housewife who was always available for her children. We always had dinner together at the dinner table and going out to eat was simply a treat upon occasion. The first home my parents purchased did not take two incomes to afford the monthly payment and they didn't have the nicest car in the neighborhood. The first thing on their mind was taking care of the family. We went on family vacations every year and almost always by car. We never stayed in fancy hotels or ate dinner at expensive restaurants. However, the one thing that we always did was have fun together. During our long car rides we ALL played the alphabet game (you use letters in highway signs to complete the alphabet), the license plate game (you see if you can spot a license plate from all 50 states), and the distance game (you pick an object in the distance and guess how many miles away you are from that object). Separating the family using iPhone's, iPad’s, and DVD players didn't exist which allowed us to communicate with each other directly. Yes, we had actual conversations with each other. As a young boy I always loved playing with toy airplanes and both my parents took note of my interest. They started buying me plastic model airplanes to build and helped me put them together whenever I would get stumped or confused. The most important part of this whole process was they took interest in my dreams and helped me move forward in achieving my dreams. I could count on them to be there every day I needed them, and I can still count of them for anything. The whole reason I started RCFlightline.com is to help families get away from the television games, social networking, text conversations, and to start experiencing reality. Being involved in radio controlled aircraft is not only reality, but it’s something the entire family can do together. It teaches math, science, and communication skills, which will be used throughout the rest of everyone lives. So in a nutshell, I wanted to share my experiences growing up in a healthy loving family environment and try to teach families that play together, learn together, and grow together create some of life’s best memories. 1 Corinthians 13:7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
