Swapmamas was born in January 2009 by a single mom who found herself in the same predicament as thousands of other parents in America. Laid off and out of work as a result of the economic downturn, Founder Darcy Cruwys bootstrapped Swapmamas with the dream of empowering a community of women to help one another, by swapping the things they no longer used, for things they needed. "After the birth of my daughter, old friends who were now scattered across the country began sending me items their daughters' had outgrown. I didn't need to purchase clothes the first two years of my daughter's life. It was a Godsend. I knew how fortunate I was to have this incredible support, especially being a single parent on a very limited budget. But I always felt for those who weren't as lucky. What about moms who DIDN'T have a network of generous friends like I did? And then, a few years later, as the economy gradually tanked, I joined the ranks of many parents who found themselves unemployed. Every family I knew was faced with a tighter belt than ever before. I wanted to help. I wanted to repay the generosity of those who helped me when I needed it. I wanted to share what I DID have. I thought there were probably a whole lot of people out there who felt the same." It seems so. <3
