Welcome to my little corner of the internet. My name is Katie and I make my home in Huntsville, Alabama, - aka the Rocket City, hence the tagline - with my husband of 12 years, The Engineer: Our children: Big Kid (Age 10): Little Kid (Age 6): and our basset hound Fletcher, known around here as Chunk, the Chunkster, or the Furry Manatee: I am a Tennessee native, born and bred, and proud graduate of Middle Tennessee State University (Go Big Blue!). After obtaining my degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice Administration, I worked in various court systems in Tennessee until my oldest was born. When he was a year old, I set out on a new career path as a yoga instructor and happily taught beginner/intermediate hatha yoga with a southern drawl for six years. In the summer of 2011, I took my lifelong love of writing and embarked on a career as a freelance writer. In April 2013, I re-entered the workforce for the first time in a decade and accepted a position with the Redstone Rocket newspaper and website, a publication of the U.S. Army Garrison at Redstone Arsenal. I started Team Skelley (nee Yoga Gal) in October 2009, as a place to talk about my family, living with a bonafide rocket scientist, fashion, music, home decor, party planning, gardening, fitness - and assorted nonsense. I use the blog to document our lives and those special moments that sometimes get lost in the hustle and bustle of raising kids. It is my goal that when I am long gone, my children and grandchildren can read through this blog and remember the good times, laugh at the bad and maybe gain a different perspective on the person who regularly opens the backdoor and shouts, "If I can hear you inside the house, you are too loud!" I am a lifelong Methodist and follower of Jesus Christ. I love (in no particular order) my family, Harry Potter, spaghetti, basset hounds, my BFF of thirty years, Olivia, AKA the Bestie, AKA Aunt Veve, shoes and it is my firm belief that "Africa," by the band Toto is the greatest song ever recorded. Favorite movies include Office Space, Ghostbusters, 13 Going on 30, Clerks, Star Trek, and My Best Friend's Wedding. My favorite television shows are 30 Rock, Happy Endings, Arrested Development, Buffy, Alias, and Scrubs. (You can tell that I am a child of the nineties.) I am a music buff-I sing second soprano in our church choir, in a previous life I played a mean flute, and my favorite artists include: Coldplay, Barenaked Ladies, Keane, Barbra Streisand, James Taylor, Billy Joel, and Ben Folds. One thing that people do not know about me is that I tap danced all through my childhood, and my dream was to be a Rockette. Well, a Rockette and a backup singer for Fleetwood Mac.
