    Back in early 2007, my family and I moved to Turkey from Texas, essentially starting over from scratch. Not only did I not know the language, but I relearned how to do everything—from cooking to laundry to making friends. I felt like a toddler in a big, big world. Me and my son, circa mid-2008, about six months after I started this blog. So? I started a blog about living simply, because that was my new modus operandi. Turned out I actually really loved the lifestyle, because it taught me who I really was, what really mattered in life, and the counter-cultural, upstream journey it requires. Simple living is both simple and difficult, but I wouldn’t want to live any other way. It’s worth it. Turns out there’s lots of other people who feel the same way. Since early 2008, The Art of Simple (formerly Simple Mom) has published stories and practical tips from a collective of writers, all dedicated to simple living. We’re passionate about both the art and the science behind living a little simpler—and maybe living a bit unconventionally, too. Head here to discover the current writers. The stuff we publish is a blend of useful tips, stories about the simple-living process, and the motivating kick in the pants you need to simplify. We like to talk about the hard stuff, too, because simplifying isn’t just about getting rid of all your physical possessions. There’s a lot of heart involved—living simply is a lifestyle that involves our relationships, our time, our souls, and our priorities. Mostly, we like to tell stories. We’re a snark-free, friendly community that loves the benefits of living with more intention—but that doesn’t mean we always have our act together. Love living clutter-free? Absolutely. Still step on LEGO and have a closet that needs decluttering? You betcha. We’re a work in progress, just like you.
