I am a fitness fanatic, loving wife, dog-mom, ACSM Certified Personal Trainer, AFPA Pre-/Post-Natal Exercise Specialist, and Pure Barre teacher in Miami, Florida. While I have always had a passion for health, fitness, and a killer workout, I have traveled quite a windy road to finally get to the life and career I have today. My journey goes back to the summer of 2008. I had just graduated from Lehigh University with a bachelor’s of science degree in Finance, and I was beginning my career in investor relations at an investment bank in New York City. I was living the dream–incredible boyfriend, snazzy job, tiny Manhattan apartment, (some) disposable income, but something was amiss–I knew that this lifestyle wasn’t for me. I wasn’t comfortable in the stuffy corporate environment, and I felt like I was lying to my true self. Throughout my time in New York, I survived the front lines of the financial crisis and a high-profile merger, so at the end of the day I was lucky enough to just be employed. But when my boyfriend-turned-fiancée decided to go back to school to get his MBA, this was our perfect chance to make the change we craved, to get out of town and try a new way of life…and after our wedding in 2011, off to Miami we went! I continued to work in my investor relations role from our apartment in Miami, and I thought this transition from business casual dressing to a daily wardrobe of stretchy yoga pants would make the day-to-day work a little more bearable. But after ten months of being an isolated homebody with my social skills dwindling from lack of use, I (and my husband) had had enough with my near-daily tears of frustration. The spark of my personality was slowly dying out amidst the number crunching and the spreadsheets, and I needed an intervention, stat. My husband got an MBA summer internship that year in Atlanta, so the relocation was the perfect opportunity for me to muster up the courage and quit my job. After months of intense hemming, hawing, and budgeting down to the last dime, I finally made one of the biggest leaps of faith in my life–I quit my job and didn’t look back! While in Atlanta I dabbled in public relations for an event planning company, but more importantly I helped open a new lululemon athletica store. It was there in that small oasis of flattering yoga pants and supportive sports bras that I, the little lamb without a friend, met the people that helped me rebuild my confidence. Through group workouts, run clubs, and sweaty yoga practices with my new-found friends, the hard shell of corporate culture that I had built around me over the years was gradually softening, and I left that summer feeling like I could finally breathe, like I was finally back to being me. I learned that sometimes the biggest personal gains come from being vulnerable, and through this transformative summer I was inspired to finally pursue what I wanted–a career in personal training. In true law-of-attraction fashion, I got introduced to a well-renowned personal trainer in Miami that needed an assistant trainer to join his one-man operation. Over the years I had learned to never let an interesting opportunity pass you by, and this was one of those don’t-let-it-slip-away moments. After I interviewed with him and got offered the position, I got right to work studying for the ACSM Certified Personal Trainer exam. I passed with flying colors and the rest is history! I chose to create this blog to hopefully inspire those out there that if something seems to be missing from your life, if you aren’t as fulfilled as you want to be, or you feel like you just don’t fit in to the life you’ve made, there is still hope. I went from having no creative freedom in my career to actively choosing a creative lifestyle where I have a new day every day. This blog is the culmination of dreams, sweat, and tears, and I am so happy to finally boil it all down to my true passions: health and fitness. Whether you’re looking for a fresh workout, nutritional tips, insight into the latest in the health and fitness industry, or just plain need some motivation, you can find that here.
