About

The Gallatin North Missourian is the official newspaper serving Daviess County since 1864. A number of distinguished publishers served under this flag, including Wesley L. Robertson, who is recognized as Missouri’s newspaper martyr after being shot and killed in 1919 while performing his journalistic duties. The North Missourian changed to tabloid format in 1996 with the advent of desktop publishing capabilities. The weekly newspaper’s paid circulation is 1,700 copies.

Gallatin Publishing Company (GPC) employs more than 25 full and part-time workers, operating a printing plant in Gallatin and a sales office in Chillicothe. The business relocated into remodeled facilities at Gallatin soon after acquiring a 6-unit News King web press from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2009. Printing newsprint periodicals (weekly, daily and monthly) are its primary business along with other commercial printing. GPC owns and distributes six periodicals besides printing more than a dozen periodicals published for neighboring communities. The company is increasingly active in website hosting and development, internet marketing, and related activities and has emerged as a leader in presenting real estate and auctions both online and in print for North Missouri and South Iowa. GPC is a family-operated corporation owned by Darryl and Liz Wilkinson, who have worked as a team their entire professional life. Both were members of the student newspaper staff at Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, then briefly at the Ida County Courier-Reminder in Ida Grove, Iowa. The couple managed The Times-Tribune at Grant City, Mo., for almost two years before moving to Gallatin, Mo., in 1978. While raising a family of four children, the Wilkinsons earned numerous honors presented by the Missouri Press Association, including the prestigious Tilghman Cloud Memorial Editorial Award (Weeklies). Darryl served as president of Northwest Missouri Press Association in 1985. He was named Missouri Volunteer of the Year for 1994 by the Southern Industrial Development Council for helping initiate and create jobs through Gallatin Industrial Development Authority. Both Liz and Darryl are active in many community and church affairs.
