Although The Oquirrh Observer is a new endeavor, the roots of Sunrise Digital Media go back almost 30 years to its start as Sunrise Media Group, Inc. Sunrise Media group owned and operated several radio stations in Utah and Montana. What in the world, you say, is the Oquirrh Observer? Well, we hope it’s a little different that anything you've ever seen before. It’s no secret that news is moving online at a dramatic pace all over the world. Utah is no different. Circulation declines in the big dailies in the state and viewership declines for broadcast television tell the story far better than we can. They target the whole state if not further. We think the way to be the most service to a group of people is to not try to be the biggest but to be the most targeted, the most focused. Our target is simple: Four wonderful communities in the shadow of the Oquirrhs on the west side of the Salt Lake Valley that sometimes get a bad rap: Magna, West Valley City, Taylorsville and Kearns. We live here. We have for a long time. We know that this is a great place to live. Yes we have a few challenges. Quite frankly, most places do. But here in the shadow of the Oquirrhs, you’re still likely to get a smile from a complete stranger when you pass them on the way into the grocery store or a helping hand from a neighbor when you’re in trouble. Our goal is simple too: To hold up a mirror and reflect back to you what’s right about living in the shadow of the Oquirrhs.
