The brain power of women is a spoon’s length long. Woman is ever changing and therefore not trustworthy. These are some of the popularly said quotes of wisdom in Sri Lanka about women. Sayings like these imply that women are not only less intelligent and undervalued, but they deserve to be confined to an inferior position in the society. This is despite the fact, Sri Lanka being the country which produced world’s first female prime minister and world’s first female executive president.

These beliefs were further strengthened by popular culture media outlets in Sri Lanka by confining women’s interest content only to cookery and sewing. 90% of the women’s interest programs on TV in Sri Lanka, and magazines published in Sri Lanka cover content relating to cookery, sewing, and housekeeping. Adding fuel to this problem, 99% of the internet websites which are seemingly appear to be women’s interest magazines are in reality soft porn websites in disguise.

In an environment like this, the team which co-founded Sri Lanka’s first parenting portal (Parenting.lk) decided to do something to fill this gap too.

Womanly.lk is an outcome of several months’ long discussions and planning of the same who team co-founded Parenting.lk in 2014. Our promise is to create a digital content portal for modern Sri Lankan women and empowering them with the latest knowledge and insights to face the new world.
