For those of us that aren’t familiar with Performance Revenues, please tell us a little more about your company and core offering. 

Performance Revenues is a premium mobile agency and user acquisition network. The network utilizes a diverse array of traffic sources, including its own direct in-app and video channels, which enables the delivery of high volume quality users, to leading advertisers, all on performance base. Fiksu recently released a report stating that the cost to acquire a loyal user has hit an all-time high of $4.23. On top of that, user retention rates in mobile apps are less than 20% after the 1st day, further increasing the cost of users to app developers. Do you think this is sustainable, and how do you think this will evolve over time?

Indeed, the numbers are mostly correct, yet we see better results in terms of retention rates of the users we provide to our client’s apps. It is also true that the cost per loyal user has climbs substantially but for such costly users the retention rate must be significantly higher, so the two figures above should not co-exist.

Obviously it also depends on the quality of the app. As Andrew Chen mentioned on his blog, the top 100 apps have way better retention rate than the rest due to the usefulness of the app and the quality of the product. The best way for developers to increase the retention rate is to have a handy app in an untapped market and not to recycle apps with saturated products, although if done right it can also work well.

 

On the user acquisition front, do you ever see a point where advertisers will work with networks on a lower-funnel KPI, instead of a Cost-per-Install? eg. a Cost-per-Sign-Up or Cost-per-First-Game-Play. 

We already work on CPR (cost-per-registration) & CPE (cost-per-engagement) campaigns. We predicted it a year ago. The mobile market gets more and more complicated and the advertisers are looking for engagement not only downloads. We even developed a technology specially to serve this need, it’s called the KPI Hero. What it does is an automated optimization of traffic channels based on the advertiser’s KPIs, which enables us to guarantee a specific cost per in-app event once we have enough data and can commit to the KPI and even switch the model to be based on that without any CPI.

 

On the monetization front, how do you maximize yield and fill rates for publishers?

We developed a one of a kind monetization solution for Android apps called HEROsdk. It is different from most other monetization solutions as its ad types are much more effective due to its uniqueness and its ability to display ads based on specific events in the device, therefore it’s yield is significantly higher than standard.

 

From your internal data, are there any average eCPM payout rates you can share across app genres and geos?

eCPMs within the same country differ significantly per ad type, app type, OS and other factors so it’s not realistic to state specific numbers.

 

Is there a minimum DAU/MAU or impressions threshold that a publisher needs to have before being accepted into your network?

No, we happily accept big and small publishers alike.

 

How do you typically pay publishers, on a CPI, CPA, CPC, or CPM basis?

We pay our partners on CPI and CPE.

 

Please tell us about your newly launched HERO Monetization SDK. Do you have any early numbers or success stories to share?

HEROsdk is a revolutionary solution that generates additional revenues from your users by monetizing them while they are not using your app! The solution monetizes users who downloaded your app from outside of the Google Play store – from alternative sources. Many app developers are not aware of the fact that there are alternative app stores outside of Google Play and Apple Store (for example, Amazon Store, Samsung Apps, Yandex and 30 others). The numbers are still early but in tier 1 countries we reach close to $20 CPM on our unique ad-types such as icon drop and dialog ad. For tier 2 and 3 these ad types generate $2-$3 CPM.

Please note that it is not possible to compare these revenues to the revenues you generate from other service providers as there are no other similar service providers (to the extent of our knowledge) and our revenues are always in-addition to the revenues generated from any other in-app monetization.
