“America’s Best Parenting Magazine”—Lisa Stone, BlogHer

Mamalode began with a party for moms the night before Mother's Day—Mother's Day Eve®. The annual event grew from a small group of friends to a large public event with 500 moms and moms-to-be, and a long list of business sponsors. Now moms across the country celebrate this night with events, big and small. Turns out we may have invented a holiday.

In 2009, we published the first edition of Mamalode magazine. We quickly found the overwhelming response to this product didn't meet the limited business model we had built, so we created a subscription plan and expanded into web and iPad. Today we have paid subscribers in all 50 states and 10 other countries, and a national community of readers and writers on mamalode.com.

We aggregate the most powerful spending demographic in the world. They control 85% of household spending, but 91% say advertisers don't understand them. We do. We cut through the noise, collect the best of the blogosphere, mash it up with MFA programs and mix it with our readers' killer submissions. And through a little curation, a lot of love for content and design and the wonders of modern motherhood, we deliver Mamalode.

"If there is a viable print model for the future, Elke might have discovered (or reinvented) it: Publish with passion on a subject your readers care deeply about. Mamalode shows what 21st century publishing can be."
—Barbara Kuhr, Founding Designer WIRED magazine

  • Key Differentiator
Mamalode is a magazine. A website. A movement. Our readers and writers are moms—with a smattering of dads, kids, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends. They become Mamaloders because we give them something nobody else does—the truth and each other. Mamalode began with a party for moms the night before Mother’s Day—Mother’s Day Eve®. The annual event grew from a small group of friends to a large public event with 500 moms and moms-to-be, and a long list of business sponsors. Now moms across the country celebrate this night with events big and small. Turns out we may have invented a holiday. In 2009, we published the first local print edition of Mamalode magazine (you can buy individual back issues or the whole darn collection HERE). Today we have paid subscribers in all 50 states and 10 other countries, an international community of readers and writers on mamalode.com and an ad free version of our Greatest Hits on iPad. Mamalode has been called “America’s BEST parenting magazine” by Lisa Stone, CEO of BlogHer. We collect the best of the blogosphere, mash it up with MFA programs and mix it with our readers' killer submissions. And through a little curation, a lot of love for content and design and the wonders of modern motherhood, we deliver Mamalode. Cruise the website. There are new themes every month filled with stories, poems, playlists, slideshows, reviews and great people. We post three pieces a day, every weekday. And we spend a whole lot of time on facebook, twitter, pinterest, instagram and youtube. On weekends, we try to keep the MAMA in mamalode.
