THE FOUNDERS ALAINA KACZMARSKI Co-founder and Editor Alaina, a Chicago native, graduated from Syracuse University in 2008 with degrees in magazine journalism and psychology. Her inherent wanderlust blossomed after spending a semester in London, so post-graduation, she decidedly packed a U-Haul and headed south to Washington, D.C. with stars her in her eyes and not a single connection to call on. She found her first job the old-fashioned way: a newspaper ad and a solid interview. She spent the next year doing communications and graphics for a small children’s advocacy non-profit organization where she gained valuable insight to cubicle life, made great friends, and quickly realized she missed Chicago. After much thought, Alaina headed back to the Windy City and moved in with her mom (while continuing her NPO work from home). A few months later, unsure of what direction her life would lead, she started her blog, Live Creating Yourself, and began writing about design. And photography. And travel. She found inspiration in the quote, “Life is not about finding yourself, life is about creating yourself.” More than two years later, her blog has allowed her to do just that. In that time, Alaina has grown her freelance graphic design and styling business, while networking with other talented bloggers and members of the design community. Alaina lives with her two cockapoos in an old converted hotel on the north side of Chicago. She loves Meg Ryan movies, yellow flowers on her desk, and singing instead of talking. DANIELLE MOSS Co-founder and Editor Danielle graduated from University of California Santa Barbara with a degree in sociology. She spent the first half of her twenties working as a nanny and executive assistant, and feeling completely lost. In an effort to document her life and “find herself,” she started a blog in 2007. After spending hours posting each week, she invested in a copy of Photoshop Elements and redesigned her lifestyle blog, Breakfast at Toast. Other bloggers began to ask for help with web and graphic design, and before Danielle knew it, she had opened her own graphic design studio. With the hopes of taking better photos for her site, she purchased a Canon Rebel. One photo shoot and graphic design project led to another, and she found herself upgrading to CS5 and a Canon 7D. In 2010, Danielle pooled her savings and ventured out on her own, leaving Los Angeles for Chicago with a new haircut, new furniture, and dreams of a new life. Knowing no one in the Windy City, she knew that this change would be the adventure of a lifetime and help shape the person she would become. For months she would wake up, look out the window, and wonder what she had done. Slowly but surely, things fell in to place. Danielle lives with her sweet little rescue pup, Buddy, in a cozy apartment where they enjoy photography, interior design, and watching TV.
