    The Herald-News, a division of Shaw Media, has roots in the Joliet area going back to 1877, when the Joliet News was first published. The Joliet Herald began in 1904, and the two were merged by Col. Ira C. Copley in 1915 to create The Herald-News. At Shaw Media, our purpose is "Making our communities better places to live." We take it seriously. Shaw Media’s first publication was printed in 1851, when the first issue of The Dixon Telegraph and Herald printed in Dixon. Benjamin Flower Shaw, then 20, became the owner and editor. In the 162 years since then, Shaw has grown to include dozens of daily and weekly publications in Illinois and Iowa. We are the third oldest, continuously owned and operated family newspaper in the nation. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life in the communities we serve.
