About Us About Travelling King Travel – Eat – Be Awesome Tips and Ideas for Affordable Travel Hi! my name’s Sam, My husband Pete and I have been travelling on and off for a few years (Pete usually gets dragged along). I have been travelling since I was a little girl and in 2000 my family migrated from Zimbabwe, Africa to Adelaide, Australia. Pete likes travelling but has never had a a big go at it (until he met me!). Pete’s more of an adventure traveller, where as I am a culture/Luxury traveller. In 2011 Pete and I got married and went on our first “overseas” trip together. We spend 2 weeks in Phuket, Thailand for our honeymoon and felt in love with the culture, the food and the experiences we had there. This is where most bloggers say they caught the “travel bug”, started blogging and quit our jobs but it wasn’t really true for us. Yes we loved the idea of travelling, we went back to Thailand the following year, where we spent 7 days in Bangkok, 5 days in Koh Samui and 11 days in Phuket. When we got back I started a WordPress blog to help me remember our trip, I have always loved scrapbooking but I have never been very creative, so i thought a blog would be a good outlet. After a few weeks of “blogging”, I really started enjoying writing about our experiences which was an odd concept to me as I have never been very interested in writing and I’m pretty sure I failed most of my English/writing classes at school. I also had a few people looking at my blog, following me and asking questions. So I started researching travel blogs and found some very inspiring writers: Nomadic Matt, YTravel Blog and Globotreks and thought bugger it, I’m going to give blogging a try! The first problem we encountered was that we didn’t travel full time like other Travel bloggers. We are just a regular couple with regular jobs and a regular mortgage but we absolutely love travelling and planning trips! So what do we do? We decided that we would continue to work and travel when we had the chance, we wanted to show the world that you can still work and get the most out of your time travelling (making the most of our annual leave too!). Our aim is to give detailed accounts of our travels in order to help you (the reader) plan your travels. We will provide tips, suggestions and guides where we can. In the end we want this to be about YOU the reader not us the travellers, we both come from a customer service based industry, we genuinely care about your readers and fans. Travelling King focuses on Affordable Luxury travel and fun tourist attractions. It’s our mission to see and promote “Affordable Luxury” and all that it has to offer! We offer advice on Budget, Mid range and Luxury travel. Please contact us with any questions or suggestions via contact me in the “about me” section on my website. 10 quick fun facts about Sam I used to shut my feet and hands in doors as a kid; apparently I haven’t grown out of it as I recently slammed my foot in the door and had a large nasty bruise for weeks.. I still can’t walk properly. Salt and vinegar chips are my life! I’m 26 years old and I still love all my teddies! I don’t have the heart to throw any of them out or give them away… I wouldn’t want to hurt their feelings and yes I’m a crazy person! Once I tried to dress my cat up in a little t-shirt, he didn’t appreciate it, he tried “acting dead” in the hopes that I will take it off and go away…yes, I’m a crazy cat lady too! I love everything Pink, which is strange because I used to hate everything colourful! I was born in Bulawayo Zimbabwe and moved to Adelaide Australia in 2000. I don’t speak a different language, although I wish I did because everyone always says “say a word in Zimbabwean”.. well firstly it’s actually called “Ndebele” pronounced as “In-da-bell-e” and secondly I can say one word: “In-ja” it means dog, not many people are that impressed and I cant blame them. Pete and I seem to have our own “language”, where we have just shortened words (probably because we are so lazy), so water is H20 which is shorten to “H”, TV remote is “the bro” and so on. I love swimming and generally being in the water! In saying that I’m terrified of the sea, well not the sea but I am convinced if I go in deeper than my knees, sharks will attack me and I refuse to be eaten alive. I sleep talk all the time, Pete has full conversations with me and then “pays me out” (Aussie saying) the next morning because apparently I’m hilarious! Once I said “there is a hole in the wall and the public are getting in!”. I’m a bit of a princess; I love luxury travel and expensive champagne. I prefer comfort and luxury hotels over backpacking and hostels. 10 quick Fun facts about Pete I really like extreme sports like snowboarding, flying a jetlev flyer, water skiing, wakeboarding, scuba diving, paintballing, rock climbing and so much more. I am the quieter one in the couple; Sam does enough talking for the both of us. I have pretty much grown up in the water, swimming, water skiing, wakeboarding, scuba diving and water polo. I’m an expert at nothing but average at a lot of things (Sam disagrees! Sam says “Pete is good at everything he does, straight away eg: Rock climbing, tree climbing and anything he puts his mind to). My nickname is “Fez” but no one can’t tell me how I got it If you think I am acting weird that probably means I am comfortable around you. I work as an arborist aka a “tree surgeon”, where I look after and/or remove trees. It’s great to be outside, except when its 40 degrees or pouring down with rain! I really enjoy photography (I take most of the photographs for this blog) I really enjoy building things like furniture or doing up my 4wd so we can go on camping weekends (Sam is “thrilled” about this – haha!) My favourite food is spaghetti Bolognese and spaghetti carbonara. I love trying the carbonara in each country we travel to, some have very interesting variations.
