    I have always been fascinated by style, fashion, interiors, architecture, art, and how people lived. As a child I could not wait to devour the latest GQ, my mother’s abandoned issues of Vogue, books and iconic films. I dreamt of a very different way of life – where people traveled the world, wore amazing clothes, lived in beautiful homes and had fabulous parties. It’s not surprising that I became an interior designer! See: James Andrew Interior Design Perhaps it was the passion with which I focused my attention that brought all of these things to me; I am a strong believer in “The Law of Attraction,” a la Abraham-Hicks In high school, once I started earning my own money, I became obsessed with clothes. That obsession has evolved quite a bit. In my younger days, I looked to clothes to make me feel better about myself; now I view clothing as an opportunity to express my individuality, and to celebrate who I am. I make a point every day to put together complete looks that are both fashionable, and classic. I love a mixture of old school and fashion, trying to keep a vibe that is young, sexy, and fresh – appropriate for where and what I am doing. I usually lean toward being a bit more dressed up – elegant, without being overly formal. I also like to challenge staid ideas regarding menswear, pushing the boundaries a bit beyond what is traditionally considered “masculine.” I plan my outfits for vacations as if I were putting together a collection to be shown at Bryant Park – generally coming up with a theme based on my destination: Texan in St Tropez or Millionaire in Morocco! Each season, I preview all the collections to see what is available. I establish a direction for the season, picking what I feel are the most striking pieces, while taking into account what will mix well with pieces from past collections I have purchased. Often, I will have a few shirts made. I also spend time finding the right accessories – shoes, pocket squares – I try not to neglect any detail, making sure to secure the right bags, cuff links, etc… People respond to my sense of style: I am constantly getting looks and comments, both good and bad. After all, if everyone liked what I was doing I would think I was surely doing something wrong! Thankfully, most of the feedback I get is good. Much of the inspiration behind creating “What is James Wearing?” has come from my multi-talented friend, Ngo Okafor; He provided invaluable encouragement and the final push I needed to actualize this forum. I am grateful to all for this opportunity to share my passion.
