Hi there. I’m Laicie — writer, runner, design lover, not at all picky eater, wife, stepmom, and doting mother to this noisy guy here. I’ll always be an Oregonian at heart, but I’m learning to love Old Bay, natty boh, and at least one or two of the changing seasons. Someday I dream of writing a book, opening a bakery, and exploring the mountains of Bhutan. For questions and collaborations, send me a note at 1000threadsblog [at] gmail [dot] com, and feel free to follow me on Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Bloglovin’ and Facebook! Here are some answers to a few of my most frequently asked questions… What’s with the name? My parents were hippies… No! The name of the blog. Oh! It was inspired by a quote from Simone Signoret that says, “Chains do not hold a marriage together. It is threads, hundreds of tiny threads, which sew people together through the years.” Her words are simple, beautiful, and so true… and they were perfect for this little blog, which started out as a way to document my trip down the aisle and evolved into a celebration of life and marriage as a whole. Why blogging? I couldn’t say it better than I did right here. The short answer? Because I love it. Who takes your pictures and what kind of camera do you use? My husband Mark gets the credit for the vast majority of pictures on A Thousand Threads. He’s busy teaching me everything he knows, but it’s a process. I love to take pictures and practice all that I can, but on the blog I stick mostly to styling things and lurking behind the scenes, rambling in Mark’s ear while he shoots (he loves that, of course). I also edit most of our pictures, because one day, damnit, I will conquer you Photoshop! … it’s for the practice. We shoot with a Canon T1i or, more recently, a 5D with either a 50mm f/1.8 or 24-105mm f/4 lens. What exactly is it that you do during the day? I work as a policy analyst at a think tank in Washington, DC, and I do a whole lot of writing and research on issues ranging from nuclear proliferation in Iran to the budget process in Congress. You can find my commentary and analysis in places like the Washington Post, Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, Foreign Policy, CNN, AP, and Reuters. Do you write about other things in other places? I try to do as much freelance writing as I can in my spare time, so yes! You can find me all over the place, but my most regular feature is on The Everygirl, where Brooke and I report the news every Friday. Do you accept submissions, gifts, giveaways, and advertising requests? Yes! Contact me at 1000threadsblog [at] gmail [dot] com to learn more. At this time I am not doing any product reviews or sponsored posts written by third parties, and will always accept only those products and partnerships that fit with the overall aesthetic and brand of A Thousand Threads.
