Publisher: The new monthly for ALL scale modellers!
  • Key Differentiator
History of Modelling In 1936 International Model Aircraft Ltd launched the world’s first moulded scale model kits known as the "Penguins". A Penguin scale model kit contained everything you needed to construct an accurate scale model. Airfix created its first promotional model of a Ferguson tractor in 1949 and this was sold through Woolworths’ retail stores in kit form. This proved to be successful and shortly after Woolworths approached Airfix suggesting that by using a more stable polystyrene plastic and poly bags with a card header, it would meet the Woolworths retail price of 2 shillings. The small scale Golden Hind was launched in 1952. Woolworths’ buyers then began to ask for more subjects, then soon after Airfix began to produce a wider range of polybagged model kits. The name Airfix is synonymous with modelling, throughout its 70 year history Airfix has inspired generations of modelling enthusiasts and will continue to do so. Editorial Synopsis Airfix Model World caters for all manner of modellers, from the eager novice embarking on their first build, to the experienced master modeller who uses photo-etched parts, resin and aftermarket decals. While new Airfix toolings and re-releases feature on a regular basis, the magazine is also completely inclusive of the whole market with reports on products from other major manufacturers, such as Hasegawa, Trumpeter, Tamiya, Italeri and Hobby Boss, to offer something for everyone. The main focus is on aircraft but, because we know many modellers look for inspiration in other disciplines, Airfix Model World also offers projects spanning military, ships, cars, space and figures. Besides the latest news and reviews, readers can also expect; high-quality photography, top-notch instruction from expert modellers, stunning artwork and colour profiles, aircrew accounts and builds and advice covering all aspects of the modelling spectrum. Readership Airfix Model World targets all modellers, whether they are new to building plastic kits, seasoned builders or exhibition standard. Readers are likely to be youngsters and adults aged 8 to 80 but they have one thing in common - a passion for their hobby on which they are prepared to spend to produce the most life-like builds possible.
