About

Cherwell is the independent student newspaper of Oxford University, England. It is the oldest student newspaper in Europe and was founded in 1920 by students Cecil Binney and George Edinger.

Cherwell is named after a local river in Oxford and is published on Friday mornings when 17,000 copies of each issue are distributed throughout Oxford.

It's website at http://www.cherwell.org is also the most successful in the country, attracting greater than 50 000 page visits per week. It was also the winner of Best Website in the 2009 Guardian Student Media Awards.
