Hi, I’m Yasmeen. I’m an Arab-American writer, blogger and cooking enthusiast based in Melbourne, Australia. Yasmeen Hilmi Richards, author of Middle Eastern cooking blog WanderingSpice.com My food romance started in Washington, D.C., perched on a chair in my mother’s kitchen. Over the years my tastes were influenced by our travels ‘home’ to the Middle East and Mediterranean, and eventually, my own wanderlust that led me to various corners of the world. While studying in Amsterdam, I found love with an Australian and soon after followed my heart (and tastebuds) to Melbourne. I’m endlessly interested in food and culture and how cuisines evolve as they travel across seas, as my own family recipes have. Wandering Spice was born in 2011, as a space to share my Eastern Mediterranean heirloom recipes and experiment with modern twists on the classics. My philosophy is that the best cooking is simple and aromatic, with room for baklawa. In 2012, we started growing vegetables on our family farm in country Victoria, to better appreciate food from seed to table and live more sustainably. All recipes published on Wandering Spice are made by me and photographed on our hefty wooden dining table, with minimal editing. Everything is devoured, little to nothing is wasted.
