The Chicago Sky is a professional basketball team, which is part of the WomenÍs National Basketball Association (WNBA) _the longest running female professional sports league in the world. Founded in 2005, the Chicago Sky became the first independently owned WNBA team in the country. The teamÍs Principal Owner, Michael Alter, is a Chicago native and President of the Alter Group, one of the countryÍs largest private commercial real estate development companies. Alter is also Founder and President of City Year Chicago. As one of six teams that compete in the WNBA's Eastern Conference, the Chicago Sky plays its home games at the Wintrust Arena, Chicago, IL. The regular season runs from May to September, with the All-Star game taking place midway through the season in July and the playoffs concluding by the middle of October. The Sky clinched the first playoff berth in team history on August 23, 2013 and their WNBA Finals debut took place on September 3, 2014. The SkyÍs roster features some of the WNBAÍs top talent including, 2014 WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year Allie Quigley and two-time WNBA Champion Cappie Pondexter and is led by General Manager and Head Coach Amber Stocks.
