The Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington (AGSIW), established in 2014, is an independent, non-profit think tank dedicated to increasing the understanding and appreciation of the social, economic and political diversity of the Arab Gulf states through expert research, analysis and programs, to inform decision makers shaping U.S. policy regarding this critical geostrategic region. Goals ¥ To build bridges of understanding between the US and the Arab Gulf states on issues ranging from politics and security, to economics, trade, and business; to social dynamics, civil society and culture. ¥ To be recognized as WashingtonÕs primary source of credible and expert analysis about the Arab Gulf countries and the complex regional issues that impact the region and US interests. ¥ To provide a Washington platform for opinion leaders from the Gulf countries to promote interaction with U.S. policy-makers and the broader American public. Strategies Our central mission is to build bridges of understanding between the US and the Arab Gulf states. To accomplish this goal our strategy will include: ¥ Provide our staff and research assistants with travel opportunities to the region to exchange views and stay abreast of issues and trends. ¥ Sponsor guest fellowships for scholars from the Gulf and promote academic exchanges between Gulf and American organizations. ¥ Mentor young American scholars through internships at the Institute and at research or academic institutions in the Gulf to broaden the interest in the region and increase the pool of regional experts.
